Visa Check Card

The Citizens First Visa Check Card looks like a credit card, works like a check and provides easy access to your Citizens First checking account. When you swipe your card at a merchant, the money is deducted from your checking account. Transactions can either be signature-based (requiring your signature) or PIN-based (requiring your personal identification number). Either way, it is FREE access to your money!

You can also use your Citizens First Visa Check Card at an ATM to withdraw cash. All usage at Citizens First ATMs is FREE. Fees will apply if you use non-Citizens First ATMs. You can earn refunds of your ATM fees if you have a Citizens First Platinum Plus account and meet the qualifications.

Your Citizens First Visa Check Card is smarter and more secure than ever! We now offer debit cards with chip technology. The embedded computer chip provides more security and wider international acceptance.

A microchip embedded in the card adds a new layer of protection against fraud for purchases made at the point of sale. Information programmed into the chip is personalized for your account, and each transaction generates a unique code, adding an extra safeguard against unauthorized use and counterfeiting.

These cards are already in wide use around the world and are now becoming the standard in the U.S.

The Citizens First Visa Check Card is now issued instantly! When you open an account with Citizens First, you can leave with your Citizens First Visa Check Card. No waiting for the mail to arrive. We will issue you a card right then and there. We have several designs from which to choose. Or if you want to personalize your card with your own photo, we can do that, too, for only $5. No copyright or trademark photos allowed.

Need a replacement card? Just stop by one of our convenient locations, and we can make one for you while you wait!

VISA Automated Billing Updater (VAU) Service

A new service is being introduced by VISA that is designed to make managing your automated payments through your VISA Check Card simpler. Effective October 1, 2017, VISA requires that all check cards are automatically enrolled in the VISA Automated Billing Updater (VAU) Service. When you receive a replacement card and the card number changes, the VAU Service provides those updates to participating merchants who maintain card information on file for recurring purchases/payments. Examples of this type of recurring payment include automated bill payments, online retailers and payment services, and movies/music/book download services and other subscriptions. The VAU Service is to assist with uninterrupted payments, reliable service and convenience for check cardholders. This new service is free, and though it is required by VISA in an effort to better serve clients and lessen the likelihood of declined payments due to outdated information, you do have the ability to opt out of this service. To opt out, contact your Citizens First customer service representative. If you choose to opt out, you will be responsible for providing your new card information to participating merchants when you receive a new check card with an updated card number. Opting into VAU does not relieve you of the obligation to ensure that merchants have correct card information on file; failure to do so may result in a declined payment. Not all merchants will participate in the VAU service, and those that do can choose the frequency at which they check for updated payment information. Neither VISA nor Citizens First Bank can guarantee that account updates are communicated to merchants prior to the next billing date. To avoid late payments and penalties, check with your merchants to ensure your card information is updated.
